Enter the ‘Ingenious’ World of Dr. Seuss at the San Diego History Center!

When you think back to your childhood, can you remember which books you read? There is a good chance books such as The Cat in the Hat; Green Eggs and Ham; Oh, the Places You’ll Go; and How the Grinch Stole Christmas! come to mind. What do all these books have in common? They were written by one of the most innovative and popular children’s author – Dr. Seuss. If you or your children love Dr. Seuss then book a room in one of the affordable places to stay in San Diego and come to the San Diego History Center and check out their latest exhibit, “Ingenious! The World of Dr. Seuss”. The exhibit is open now until January 3, 2016.

Dr. Seuss is a native of San Diego so it is only natural for the San Diego History Center to have an exhibit in his honor. This exhibit is a celebration of the imaginative world that Dr. Seuss created and that so many of us have enjoyed being a part of. There will also be family-friendly activities that everyone can enjoy at this event. The activities and displays all work towards the underlying theme of “Literacy, the Environment, and Community” – all things that Dr. Seuss advocated for. Entrance into “Ingenious! The World of Dr. Seuss” is included with general admission into the San Diego History Center.

The San Diego History Center is located at 1649 El Prado, Suite 3, San Diego, CA 92101. The Dr. Seuss exhibit is self-guided and is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30am – 3:30pm and Tuesday & Thursday from 10am – 4pm. Admission into the museum is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors 65+, students (with ID) and retired military personnel. Youth ages 6-17 can get in for $6 and children 5 and under get in for FREE! Those with an active duty military ID can also get in free.

Enjoy a Music-Filled Summer Night at the San Diego Zoo!

San Diego is one of the best places to be during the summer because the city offers such an array of things to do and see. The city also has options that are great for the whole family. One of these fun opportunities is Night Time Zoo at the San Diego Zoo. From June 21st through September 7th, the San Diego Zoo will be offering live music and fun activities for all guests during special summer hours. Come and see what all the fun is about as you listen to various genres of music and partake in activities set up especially for you! Stay in San Diego a while at a family friendly hotel close to the San Diego Zoo and see multiple events at the zoo!

Throughout the zoo, there will be different types of music playing. At the Front Street Café, there will be mariachis playing festive music; over at the Sabertooth Grill, The Alley Cats will be singing doo wop music complete with harmonies and a cappella energy. In addition, also at Koalafornia Boardwalk, you will be able to find some of your kids’ favorite costume animals such as Churchill the Polar Bear, Bamboo Panda, Monty Meerkat and others for some fun photo opportunities.

Avoid the ‘Walkers’ at any cost during ‘The Walking Dead ESCAPE!

Are you a fan of the show The Walking Dead? Do you think you have what it takes to stay away from walkers and keep alive? Now is your chance to see if you have what it takes! Gather your friends and head out to PETCO Park where you will get the chance to immerse yourself in the world of The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead ESCAPE will run on Friday, July 10th and Saturday, July 11th from 6pm – 10pm. Get your tickets today before they run out!

When you attend The Walking Dead Escape you will get right into the thick of things. It’s more than just an obstacle course. You’ll have to run, climb over abandoned cars, crawl through tunnels and so much more in order to keep the walkers from getting you. Be sure you don’t make a wrong turn or you might find yourself cornered by a group of walkers! Try to survive the entire time or else you’ll get caught. If you would rather be a walker and roam as the undead, you can also sign up to become one of the walkers. If you don’t think you’re quite up for participating in this event, you can also always join as a spectator! You’ll be able to sit on the sidelines and watch all the action unfold.

Tickets to be a survivor cost $40. Waves of participants will be let in every 15 minutes. If you would like to be a part of ESCAPE: The Walking Dead as a walker, general admission is $75. Price includes getting painted on by a professional makeup artist to ensure you’ll look the part. Makeup starts at 4pm. Walkers can arrive at 4pm, 6pm, or 7:30pm. There is also a combo ticket that you can purchase for $100. With the Combo Ticket, you can run the Escape as a survivor, and then afterward, join in on the fun as a walker! The run will be from 6pm – 6:45pm then you will receive your walker paint at 7:30pm. After you escape the undead relax in one of the great places to stay near San Diego’s PetCo Park. Enjoy the Best Brews at the San Diego International Beer Festival!

One of the best things about summer is all of the fantastic festivals that are held throughout the summer months. If you are wondering what summer festivals you should check out this year, how about starting with the San Diego International Beer Festival?! This is the largest beer festival on the West Coast and now it is your turn to join in on all the fun. The Beer Festival will take place from Friday, June 19th through Sunday, June 21st. Tickets are now on sale.

When you head out to the 5th annual San Diego Beer Fest, there are a number of things that you can expect. The first of those being that you will be surrounded by the largest amount of beers to try on the entire West Coast. In fact, there will be over 400 different types of beers and over 200 breweries from North America and abroad. In addition to all the amazing beer that you can drink, you can also stop by a number of different booths selling merchandise such as shirts and hats as well as custom made glasses among other things! Some of the best food trucks in San Diego will also be attending, which means you can eat delicious foods while you’re sipping on craft beers.

There will be 5 sessions of the beer festival that will take place during the weekend. The first session is on Friday, June 19th from 12p – 4pm. Session 2 is June 19th from 5-9pm. Session 3 is on Saturday, June 20th from 11am – 3pm. Session 4 is June 20th from 4-8pm. Session 5 (the final session) is on Sunday, June 21st from 1-5pm. This is the perfect event if you’re staying in a budget-friendly hotel in San Diego near major events. General admission is $62. Comic-Con is coming back to San Diego!

From superheroes to villains to intergalactic missions, comic books allow readers to travel to new worlds and have fantastic adventures. It is no surprise that there are so many fans of comic books, especially fans of superheroes. In order to celebrate the world of comic books and the people who love them, the San Diego Comic-Con was created. This year, Comic-Con will once again be held at the San Diego Convention Center and it will take place from Thursday, July 9th through Sunday, July 12th.

All of the great things that you have come to expect from Comic-Con will be happening again this year. There will be exhibits, a gallery show on classic comic book covers, awards, and the opportunity to meet some of your favorite cartoonists and writers. In addition to the usual festivities, there will be a new exhibit that Comic-Con international is happily presenting. It is entitled, “The Art of Comic-Con” located at the gallery exhibit. Partnering with the San Diego Public Library, this exhibit will bring together comics, movies, and science fiction fans to celebrate art that is shown through comics. Another great thing about Comic-Con is that you can meet other comic fans, dress up as your favorite characters, and have fun!

Passes for the San Diego Comic-Con are now on sale. The San Diego Convention center is located at 111 West Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101. When attending Comic-Con you may want to book a hotel close to the San Diego Convention Center as soon as possible since rooms will fill up quickly for this five day event. The exhibit hall hours are as follows:

  • Wednesday, July 8th, the exhibit halls are open from 6pm – 9pm.
  • Thursday, July 9th  through Saturday, July 11th the exhibits are open from 9:30am – 7pm.
  • Sunday, July 12th, the final day of the festival, the exhibit hall will be open from 9:30am – 5pm.

Hit the A-Frame at the San Diego Surf Film Festival!

Do you love the ocean? Do you enjoy surfing? Maybe you don’t know how to surf but you like to watch others catching waves. Four years ago, people wanted to share the joy of surfing with people like you. The result was the San Diego Surf Film Festival – an opportunity to celebrate the passion for the ocean and surfing that so many people share. The festival stars independent filmmakers that simply want to share the special experience of being a surfer. This year, the 4th annual San Diego Surf Film Festival will take place from Wednesday, May 20th through Saturday, May 23rd.

When you attend the San Diego Surf Film Festival, you can expect many things. For example, there will be over 20 international films screened throughout the festival including O&As, panels, and workshops with filmmakers. There will also be a surf art gallery, live art, and other forms of entertainment such as live music and shaping demos. There will even be an opportunity to give back to the community by signing up to help with a beach cleanup, and don’t forget to attend one of the after-parties that you won’t want to miss!

There will be various venues throughout the festival. On May 20th, the festival will take place at the Green Flash Brewing Company Tasting Room in Mira Mesa. This is located at 6550 Mira Mesa Blvd, San Diego CA 92121. From May 21st to the 23rd one of the venues will be at the Sherwood Auditorium at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego – La Jolla. This is located at 700 Prospect Street, La Jolla CA 92037. On May 22nd and the 23rd one of the venues will be at the La Jolla Rec Center (Nautilus Lounge) located at 615 Prospect Street, La Jolla CA 92037.
