One of the best weeks of the year is just around the corner! If you didn’t know, San Diego Restaurant Week is returning from January 17th through the 24th. For 8 days, you can visit over 180 of the best places to eat in San Diego. Grab friends and family and don’t forget your appetite as your prepare for Restaurant Week!

Restaurant Week allows you to try out a number of different restaurants at a discounted price. Participating restaurants offer a lunch or dinner prix fixe menu where you can choose from a set list of dishes at a fixed price. Dinners often include an appetizer, entree and dessert. Restaurant Week also allows you to explore the various areas of San Diego since you can find participating restaurants all throughout the city. Let’s say you wanted some steak for dinner. At Island Prime, located in Point Loma, you can order an 8oz Filet Mignon that comes with sea salt mashed potatoes, sauteed haricots verts and red wine demi-glace. For your first course you can choose from a lobster bisque, a BLT wedge salad or pressed arugula salad. For dessert, choose from a peanut butter cheesecake, key lime tart or a vanilla bean creme brulee. You can get all this for just $40!

Participating neighborhoods include Coronado, Downtown San Diego, East County, Uptown, La Jolla, Central SD neighborhoods, Mission Bay and Beaches, North County Coastal, North County Inland, South Bay, Point Loma/Harbor Island, and Old Town San Diego. Your Guide to the Best Holiday Events in San Diego

Another parade to go to is the Port of San Diego Holiday Bowl Parade. This parade is America’s Largest Balloon Parade. Don’t miss 2 Nights Full of Food & Spirits During Balboa Park December Nights

If you will be in San Diego during the holiday season, you will not want to miss out on December Nights at Balboa Park. On December 4th and 5th Balboa Park will once again be offering a festive event to get the holiday season started. There will be beautiful Christmas decorations, treats to enjoy, and much more so be sure to look for places to stay in San Diego near Balboa Park so you don’t miss out!

This will be the 38th consecutive year that Balboa Park will host December Nights. On both evenings, museums at Balboa Park will allow FREE admission for all to enjoy but that is just the beginning. These nights offer fun cultural events for all to enjoy. There will be a number of different options for cultural foods to choose from main plates to sweets and treats. This will be located at the International Christmas Festival at the House of Pacific Relations Cottages. There will also be the annual Santa Lucia Procession at the Plaza de California as well as live entertainment. Some of this includes musical and dance presentations from such places as the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, the San Diego Junior Theatre, the Del Cerro Baptist’s Christmas Story Tree and more. A brand new event that can be enjoyed this year is the Children’s Interactive Area. Families will have the opportunity to add onto a giant-sized coloring book page that features Balboa Park. At the Spanish Village, there will also be artisans offering art that can be purchased as gifts!

You can See “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” this Holiday Season in San Diego

During this holiday season there are many fun and family-friendly events to choose from. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is one of the most beloved and well-known Christmas stories around. Now, the story by Dr. Seuss has been turned into a wonderful musical for all to enjoy. How the Grinch Stole Christmas the musical will be showing at the Old Globe theater from now until December 26th. Bring your whole family down to the Globe Theater today if you’re looking for Christmas events in San Diego!

The musical adaption of How the Grinch Stole Christmas has been played at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego every Christmas season since 1998. This wonderful tradition will continue this season as well. Lyrics will be by Timothy Mason and the music will be Mel Marvin. The musical follows the original story by Dr. Seuss, so you likely already know the story. The Grinch lives up in a mountain above Whoville. All the Who’s in Whoville love to celebrate Christmas and to spread happiness and joy. One year, the Grinch decides to steal Christmas so that the Who’s won’t be able to celebrate. He devises a plan to steal all the presents and Christmas decorations in the village on Christmas Eve. The next day, he is astounded to see that the Who’s still celebrate the holiday despite the fact that they do not have any presents. Moved by the Who’s desire to still celebrate Christmas, the Grinch returns all the presents to the Who’s and is even invited as the guest of honor at the dinner celebration. This wonderful story now has fantastic songs in this musical adaptation.

Running time of the musical is 1 hour and 25 minutes and there is no intermission. Weekday performances will be at 7pm. Most weekends will have multiple performances. These performances will be at 11am, 2pm, and 5pm. During the 11am performance, guests of all ages will be admitted to the show. Don’t Miss the San Diego Asian Film Festival!

One of the great things about Southern California is there is always something fun to do. In addition, you’ll always find a number of great film festivals taking place, even here in San Diego. At the beginning of November, the San Diego Asian Film Festival will be taking place at a variety of venues throughout the city. At this film festival, you will have the opportunity to be one of the first audiences to see some of these great films. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of one of the most popular Asian American film festivals in San Diego! Tickets are on sale now.

The San Diego Asian Film Festival showcases one of the largest exhibitions of Asian films on the Western Coast of the United States, so you know that this event will be big. It is put together by the Pacific Arts Movement, which is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the arts and wishes to share Asian American and international films with the world. From November 5-14, the festival will present over 130 films from 20 different countries. This year, the films will be shown at six different venues throughout San Diego: San Diego Marriott Mission Valley, La Paloma Theatre, The Museum of Photographic Arts, UCSD Calit2 Atkinson Hall Auditorium, The Museum of Contemporary Art Sherwood Auditorium, and UltraStar Mission Valley. Some of the films that will be showing include:

  • Getting Intimate with Dr. Ken, starring Ken Jeong
  • Ms. India America, starring Ravi Kapoor
  • Lorna, starring Sigrid Andrea Bernardo
  • Made in Japan, starring Josh Bishop

Tickets for the San Diego Asian Film Festival can either be purchased individually for each show, or by purchasing a festival pass. To purchase tickets for an individual film, you can find the film’s page on the website and purchase there. You can also purchase tickets the day of, but keep in mind that tickets may sell out. A Festival 6-pack can be purchased online for $60, and an All Festival Pass can be purchased online for $250 and will give you access to all films. Discover Haunting Family Secrets at the Savage House Attraction in San Diego!

A local farmhouse has recently been raided by the Plainfield County Sheriff Department. What they found inside was shocking and disturbing. The deputies found the remains of over 70 victims scattered all throughout the farmhouse. Body parts were found in freezers, refrigerators, and other contains including skulls and bones that had been left behind. Allegedly, all of the victims has been originally kidnapped and held hostage until they were brutally murdered. Luckily, the deputies were able to save 3 survivors who were found once the police raided the home. However, deputies were unable to locate the family members of the house. The family includes Clyde Wytner, the father, his 3 sons, 2 daughters and Clyde’s brother. All of them have lengthy police records and they are now at large. According to reports, the family was tipped off that the police were coming when a local reporter showed up to the house after finding out that the raid was going to take place. Now, the Sheriff’s Department has decided to allow members of the public to tour the house now that the crime scene is secure. But will the family return to the scene of the crime?

Savage House is not recommended for anyone 12 and under. The event will be open from Thursday, October 15th – Sunday, October 18th; Thursday the 22nd – Sunday the 25th; and Monday the 26th – Saturday the 31st. Savage house will be open from 7pm – 11pm. However, it will be open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. General admission is $16. Front of the line passes are available for purchase for an additional $5. Madonna will be Performing Live in San Diego

Madonna was one of the most successful pop acts during the 1980s and is still releasing popular tracks today. The following year she released LIke a Virgin, which became her first number one album. This album contained hit songs such as “Material Girl”, “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore”, and “Like a Virgin”. As of yet, she has released thirteen albums during her musical career, and her latest album was released earlier this year which is entitled Rebel Heart. Madonna is currently on tour to promote Rebel Heart. The album features appearances from Nicki Minaj, Chance the Rapper, and Nas as well as some songs on the album being co-produced by Avicii, Diplo, and Kanye West.

The Phantom of the Opera will be Haunting Broadway San Diego in October!

If you are a fan of theater, Broadway San Diego is the best way see popular musicals in San Diego. The next show that will be performed is the Phantom of the Opera, which is set to be performed from October 7th through the 18th.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera has been newly produced by Cameron Mackintosh. The new production, which is “bigger and better than ever before” is currently on a North American tour and will be in San Diego for a brief time only before heading off to the next city. You will see some of the same special effects such as the legendary chandelier, but you will also experience new staging, new lighting and scenic designs, and even new choreography. The musical is based off of the French novel Le Fantome de l’Opera by Gaston Leroux. Created into a musical in 1986, it won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1988 and quickly grew in success. In fact, The Phantom of the Opera is longest running show in Broadway history. Now is your chance to be a part of history. Come to Broadway San Diego and follow the story of young soprano Christine Daae. The mysterious Phantom of the Opera falls in love with her and creates a scheme to make her fall in love with him.

The running of the Phantom of the Opera is 2 hours and 35 minutes, which includes one intermission. The musical is recommended for children 6 and up.
