With the unprecedented amount of rain Southern California has seen this season, it has been an amazing time to visit one of the natural parks in the area. During the drought, many of the desert state parks have been pretty sparse, but thanks to the recent rain, wild flowers have been in full bloom. So if you’re looking for things to do in San Diego here are some places you can check out to view beautiful wildflowers bloom.
The Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in all of California. Within the park, there are 12 wilderness areas and many miles of hiking trails within the areas. At the park, you will be able to see golden eagles, foxes, bighorn sheep, iguanas, cacti, palm groves, and of course, wildflowers. Dogs are allowed at the park, but they must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. You’ll find the Anza Borrego Desert State Park toward the eastern side of San Diego.
One particular place to look into within the park is the Mine Wash. The drive that will take you to the village site at Mine Wash provides a beautiful view of wildflowers with a wide range of colors such as yellows, greens, oranges and more. Take in the blues and purples of the desert lavender or the indigo bush, the bright pinks of the beavertail cacti and hedgehog, the whites/cream of pincushion flowers or the brown-eyes primroses. For more information, visit (760) 767-4205 or visit the Borrego Desert Nature Center located at 652 Palm Canyon Drive. During the flower season, enjoy FREE flower maps. Stop by the Nature Center for the most up to date report of the wild flowers. If you stop by the Anza Borrego Desert State Park, be sure to keep an eye out for snakes as they tend to be seen more frequently during the spring time.
