The Phantom of the Opera will be Haunting Broadway San Diego in October!

If you are a fan of theater, Broadway San Diego is the best way see popular musicals in San Diego. Broadway San Diego is directly connected to Broadway in New York, which means you will get high quality performances without having to travel to the other side of the country! Broadway San Diego has a fantastic season lined up full of unforgettable performances. The next show that will be performed is the Phantom of the Opera, which is set to be performed from October 7th through the 18th.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera has been newly produced by Cameron Mackintosh. The new production, which is “bigger and better than ever before” is currently on a North American tour and will be in San Diego for a brief time only before heading off to the next city. You will see some of the same special effects such as the legendary chandelier, but you will also experience new staging, new lighting and scenic designs, and even new choreography. The musical is based off of the French novel Le Fantome de l’Opera by Gaston Leroux. Created into a musical in 1986, it won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1988 and quickly grew in success. In fact, The Phantom of the Opera is longest running show in Broadway history. Now is your chance to be a part of history. Come to Broadway San Diego and follow the story of young soprano Christine Daae. The mysterious Phantom of the Opera falls in love with her and creates a scheme to make her fall in love with him.

The running of the Phantom of the Opera is 2 hours and 35 minutes, which includes one intermission. The musical is recommended for children 6 and up. While she has her roots in country music, with successive albums, she little by little tested out Pop music and with 1989, she released her first full length pop album. Taylor Swift is one of the best selling artists of all time, selling over 40 million albums throughout the world. She has also won 7 Grammy Awards, 22 Billboard Awards, and 11 Country Music Association Awards among others.

During her worldwide tour, she will be stopping in San Diego and will perform at Petco Park. In fact, this will be her first time performing at Petco Park! Enter the ‘Ingenious’ World of Dr. Seuss at the San Diego History Center!

When you think back to your childhood, can you remember which books you read? There is a good chance books such as The Cat in the Hat; Green Eggs and Ham; Oh, the Places You’ll Go; and How the Grinch Stole Christmas! come to mind. What do all these books have in common? They were written by one of the most innovative and popular children’s author – Dr. Seuss. If you or your children love Dr. Seuss then book a room in one of the affordable places to stay in San Diego and come to the San Diego History Center and check out their latest exhibit, “Ingenious! The World of Dr. Seuss”. The exhibit is open now until January 3, 2016.

Dr. Seuss is a native of San Diego so it is only natural for the San Diego History Center to have an exhibit in his honor. This exhibit is a celebration of the imaginative world that Dr. Seuss created and that so many of us have enjoyed being a part of. There will also be family-friendly activities that everyone can enjoy at this event. The activities and displays all work towards the underlying theme of “Literacy, the Environment, and Community” – all things that Dr. Seuss advocated for. Entrance into “Ingenious! The World of Dr. Seuss” is included with general admission into the San Diego History Center.

The San Diego History Center is located at 1649 El Prado, Suite 3, San Diego, CA 92101. The Dr. Seuss exhibit is self-guided and is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30am – 3:30pm and Tuesday & Thursday from 10am – 4pm. Admission into the museum is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors 65+, students (with ID) and retired military personnel. Youth ages 6-17 can get in for $6 and children 5 and under get in for FREE! Those with an active duty military ID can also get in free.

Enjoy a Music-Filled Summer Night at the San Diego Zoo!

San Diego is one of the best places to be during the summer because the city offers such an array of things to do and see. The city also has options that are great for the whole family. One of these fun opportunities is Night Time Zoo at the San Diego Zoo. From June 21st through September 7th, the San Diego Zoo will be offering live music and fun activities for all guests during special summer hours. Come and see what all the fun is about as you listen to various genres of music and partake in activities set up especially for you! Stay in San Diego a while at a family friendly hotel close to the San Diego Zoo and see multiple events at the zoo!

Throughout the zoo, there will be different types of music playing. At the Front Street Café, there will be mariachis playing festive music; over at the Sabertooth Grill, The Alley Cats will be singing doo wop music complete with harmonies and a cappella energy. At the Front Street Stage, Rock and Roar will be singing popular songs spanning across decades. If you know the words, feel free to sing and dance along with them! Over at Zoo Brew, listen to the Zoo Brew Grooves where classic pop and rock songs will be played on the acoustic guitar at this relaxed atmosphere. These are just some of the musical attractions that will be taking place at the zoo.

So what will guests be able to participate in during Night Time Zoo? Some fun activities to enjoy include Dr. Zoolittle’s Music Factory at the Koalafornia Boardwalk. This kid-friendly event allows for kids to explore their creativity with an array of instruments to try. In addition, also at Koalafornia Boardwalk, you will be able to find some of your kids’ favorite costume animals such as Churchill the Polar Bear, Bamboo Panda, Monty Meerkat and others for some fun photo opportunities.
